On the back of his second place finish at the Bahrain Grand Prix, Kimi Raikkonen is optimistic that his Lotus team can again be a force in Spain.

Raikkonen completed 32 trouble free laps of the Circuit de Catalunya on Friday and said the team had made improvements to the car during the recent Mugello test.

"There were no problems with the car and everything felt good today," said Raikkonen. "We tried a different front wing, but in the car you can't tell if it makes much difference; that is why the team's engineers are looking at the data. I felt comfortable and I think the work done at Mugello and in the Windshear test programme have made improvements.

"We'll have to see tomorrow how much pace everyone has when it comes to qualifying as that's when it matters. We've been fast everywhere else so far and there's nothing to suggest we won't be fast here again."

Although Raikkonen acknowledges a good grid position is preferable, he maintains that a lot of ground can still be made up from further back on the grid in a similar fashion to Bahrain.

"For sure there are small things that we have to improve but Button was a bit ahead of everyone but we have a chance to have a good qualifying. It helps if you're near the front but with the rule changes things are slightly different so you can still overtake and here it should be possible to overtake."
