Marquardt breaks his silence after UFC Live chaos

Nate Marquardt has issued a brief apology to his fans following his enforced withdrawal from UFC Live this weekend.

Marquardt was sidelined from the Pittsburgh card's main event against Rick Story after failing to pass a medical examination. As a result, Story will now fight Charlie Brenneman in the welterweight division.

The biggest twist was still to arrive on Saturday night though as UFC president Dana White reacted by axing Marquardt from the UFC.

Officials from the UFC and members of the Marquardt camp have both steered clear of revealing the reason for Marquardt's inability to pass the examination. The fighter's camp would only state that he "should be back in action very soon."

However, Marquardt has briefly broken his silence to address his fans, before promising that he will fight again.

"I'm sorry to all my fans and the UFC for not passing the medicals for tonight's fight," Marquardt tweeted on Sunday evening.

"I'm heartbroken I couldn't fight, but I will be back."
