Michael Schumacher has apologised to Rubens Barrichello with a text message after their wheel-to-wheel duel in Hungary, the Brazilian told reporters on Thursday.
Barrichello, who was the centre of attention at Spa-Francorchamps ahead of his milestone 300th grand prix, had earlier revealed that while Schumacher might have apologised with a website statement, the seven-time world champion had not said sorry in person.
"I received a message from him today, an SMS," said Barrichello in Belgium. "I just said thank you, no problem. I accepted it, wished him a good weekend, life goes on."
Schumacher said he had sent the text primarily to congratulate his ex-Ferrari team-mate on notching up his milestone race.
"There were two reasons I sent the text. One of the main reasons is that it is his 300th grand prix and we have quite a lot of history together so I thought it was appropriate to congratulate him," Schumacher is quoted as saying by the BBC.
"[The second reason was to] clarify the point because he sort of felt that I wanted to push him against the wall and very clearly this was not my ambition. I wanted to race very tightly but without any contact. [I wanted to] clarify that if he felt that this was the case then I was sorry for that."
