Jenson Button admits he is on the back foot going into qualifying in Abu Dhabi after being hampered by issues in practice.

Button, whose F1 future remains in doubt with McLaren's 2015 line-up yet to be confirmed, had a disjointed Friday, with a number of issues limiting his running.

"Not really, it's gone hasn't it," Button said when asked if he could make up for lost time on saturday. "It was tricky with this morning, had an issue with the rear suspension and then a hydraulic issue which kept me out of most of the session. We had an issue inside the cockpit at one point too which meant I had to get out and then back in. It's been a pretty messy day and with all the work that's been going on the the car is not set down as we expected it to looking at it now."

Team-mate Kevin Magnussen finished best of the rest in FP2 on the simulation runs in the evening, which Button hopes to build on in qualifying.

"I think Kevin's lap was good, whether it will be the same tomorrow I don't know. There's a lot of work needed for the long runs, for consistency and looking after the tyres, as we seem to be struggling compared to our competitors out there. There's a lot of work to do overnight. I think over one lap the car doesn't seem to big but looking at the lap times of the long runs, it's tricky out there."
