Fresh from tipping Rory McIlroy to win the US PGA Championship at odds of 18/1, the Betting Bunker returns...

The 'Wild Thing' has one last chance to gatecrash the $10 million FedEx Cup party. At this week's Wyndham Championship, the last event of the PGA Tour's regular season, John Daly knows he needs to produce something special to qualify for the Barclays.

The top 125 on the FedEx Cup points list will earn their spot in the first of the four play-off events, which feature ever-decreasing fields as they ruthlessly cut the chaff from week to week. Daly, who has never qualified for the play-offs, is currently ranked 137 following a T5 at the Reno-Tahoe and T18 at the US PGA in recent weeks.

Daly goes off at 80/1 and, given his enduring popularity, there will be plenty of people willing him on - however, his record at the Wyndham is mediocre, and I feel his shaky putting won't be able to carry him to a low enough score to earn us any money.

Williams' wagers

  • Carl Pettersson E/W - 18/1 at bet365
    Brandt Snedeker E/W - 25/1 at bet365

So what do we know about the Wyndham? Well, this year they've replaced the changed the putting surfaces, laying Champion Bermuda grass, which is expected to make the greens much speedier, and thus trickier. It's not a long course, so really you're looking for a demon with the flat stick who will conquer the pace early on.

I just can't see past Carl Pettersson after his third-place finish at Kiawah Island last week - and that would have been second had he not incurred a two-shot penalty on the final day, falling foul of another of golf's arcane laws. He's a brilliant putter, ranking 11th on the tour charts, and he was a winner at the Wyndham in 2008, as well as grabbing a share of fourth last year. If that's not enough, he co-owns the Sedgefield course record with 61.

Beyond Pettersson, Brandt Snedeker, another past Wyndham victor, is a really fair price at 25/1. He tied for third at the Open Championship last month, so the form is there, and he ranks seventh in birdie average on tour, as well as fifth for putting. Got to be worth a small play. Good luck!
