Steve Bunce: Hatton makes sense for Khan

Amir Khan has vowed to stick to his plan to have one more fight at light-welterweight in December before moving up a division next year, with one eye on taking on unbeaten American legend Floyd Mayweather Jnr.

WBO and IBF Khan looks set to face Erik Morales, Jorge Barrios or Lamont Peterson in four months time, but he would start as a significant favourite against any of those, leading sceptics to question the point of the bout.

ESPN's Steve Bunce has advised Khan to move up to welterweight immediately and seek out a fight against either Matthew Hatton or Kell Brook, two names who would do far more to capture the British public's attention.

However, Khan is not for turning. "It's so hard for me to get fights at 140lb," he told Sky Sports News. "We will take this one fight and then take a fight at 147lb, where there's more challenges. I've been moved from No. 2 to No. 1 in the light-welterweight division. I'm going in the right direction.

"Every young fighter wants to fight the best out there. Floyd is the best in this era, also Manny Pacquiao, but Floyd is a possibility in the next 12 months. Floyd has said he would want to fight in Wembley stadium, I'm sure it would be a sell-out."
