Williams too quick for Red Bull - Vettel
Sebastian Vettel says Williams were simply too quick for Red Bull during qualifying at the Brazilian Grand Prix on Saturday.
Vettel was sixth fastest in qualifying and over 0.6s off the pace of the Williams drivers on the second row. Red Bull had hoped to fight with Williams this weekend after Friday practice, but Vettel admitted he was nowhere near their pace.
"Williams was just quite a bit quicker," he said. "I think you've seen that many time this year that Williams is quite a bit slower on a Friday, and I don't know whether they save the engines or run a lot of fuel or something else compromising their Fridays, but we have seen many times they pick up their pace for Saturday. They were quite a lot quicker than us and very close to the Mercedes as well. Too quick for everybody else I guess."
Although Red Bull are down on power compared to Williams, Vettel disagreed with suggestions that Red Bull are simply quicker through the corners and slower on the straights.
"The days when we were only quick in the corners are over for quite a while now. Historically we struggled on the straights for different reasons, I think mostly the way we built our car in the past, but over the years I think we got stronger also on the straights. This year is a different story because we know we are a little bit down in terms of power, which obviously doesn't help on the straights.
"But I think generally we have a car that works in low-speed and high-speed depending on how many corners and how many straights you have. It obviously varies sector to sector and I think we are reasonably competitive here in sector one, but sector three is obviously a different story because there is only one corner and a very long, uphill straight which is where you need the power."
