Race

Hello and welcome to ESPN's live coverage of the 2017 British Grand Prix.

------------------------------------------------------

13:03 Palmer stops on the Hangar Straight after reporting brake and hydraulics issues. A disaster for the Briton at his home race! The start has been aborted and there will be an extra formation lap.

----

13:00 The formation lap is underway. We are just moments away from lights out!

12:57 Just a few minutes to go now until the start of the race! Will Hamilton take his fifth British GP win, or can Ferrari hit back in the race? Keep it with ESPN here to find out.

----

12:55 Magnussen, Wehrlein and Ericsson round out the top 18, before the out-of-sequence duo of Ricciardo and Alonso prop up the back of the grid -- following their respective grid penalties.

----

12:52 Palmer is another driver yet to score this year -- the Briton starts his home race from 11th. Next up come the Toro Rossos of Kvyat and Sainz, ahead of the Williams pair of Massa and Stroll.

----

12:50 Vandoorne, who starred in qualifying to out qualify a McLaren teammate for the first time this year, will be bidding to score his first points of the season from eighth. The Belgian has Bottas' Mercedes just behind, while Grosjean's Haas rounds out the top 10 starters.

----

12:48 The Force Indias are next up line-a-stern headed by Perez in sixth, with Ocon alongside. Another chance for the team to score another double points finish and continue its impressive start to 2017, at what is Force India's home race.

----

12:46 It's time for the British national anthem!

----

12:45 Salman says: "Race prediction Lewis P1 Seb P2 Verstappen P3.. first points for Palmer. Cant see Mclaren finishing in top 10.. Ricciardo will not see complete race distance today."

----

12:42 Bottas qualified fourth but drops back to ninth following his five-place grid penalty for a gearbox change. That promotes Red Bull's Verstappen up to fourth, while Hulkenberg has a great opportunity to record Renault's best finish of the season as he starts from fifth -- the best starting position for the French manufacturer since it returned to F1 as a full-blown works team.

----

12:38 Hamilton is in need of a win today too, having fallen 20 points behind main title rival Vettel in the championship standings. Vettel was out qualified by Raikkonen for the third successive British Grand Prix, with the German lining up from third. Worth keeping an eye on how Ferrari manage its intra-team battle...

----

12:35 Hamilton, who took his fifth pole position at Silverstone yesterday, is going for his fifth British GP victory today. If he is successful, he will equal Jim Clark and Alain Prost's record of wins at the British GP. Victory today would also see Hamilton become the first driver to take four consecutive wins here.

----

12:30 The pit lane is open! All 20 drivers will now complete installation laps before heading to their respective grid positions.

Lap 1

Lights out! Hamilton makes a good start and leads the way from Raikkonen and Verstappen, who gets ahead of Vettel.

A clean start from everybody so far, as Bottas makes up ground in seventh.

Sainz is out of the race at Becketts!

Lap 2

The Safety Car is deployed.

It was Kvyat who tagged his teammate heading into Becketts, as both drivers went off. A nightmare start at Toro Rosso.

Vettel posts a new fastest lap on a 1:32.225s.

Lap 22

Hamilton is told to pit at the end of this lap, with a 19.3s lead over Bottas.

Hamilton heads into the pits.

Lap 26

Hamilton returns to track just ahead of Bottas!

Bottas pits from second.

Lap 33

Bottas returns to the action on super-softs, behind Vettel in fourth. A mega pit stop from the Mercedes crew at 2.1s.

Bottas takes a second out of Vettel on that lap, and moves closer to being within DRS range.

Lap 43

Bottas tries a move into Stowe but is forced to go round the outside.

Vettel suffers a massive lock up into Club and holds his lead, but only just.

Lap 44

This time Bottas does get around the outside of Vettel into Stowe! He's up to third. That received a big cheer all around Silverstone, as Vettel gets demoted down the order and, as things stand, will drop further points to Hamilton in the championship.

Lap 45

"I have no more fronts," reports Vettel. He is really struggling after that lock up and has already fallen 5s behind Bottas.

Lap 46

Grosjean and Ericsson come together into Brooklands as Grosjean is forced wide. He is not a happy man with that.

"So stupid, unbelievable," he bemoans over team radio.

New fastest lap of the race from Bottas, who sets a 1:31.007s.

Lap 47

Just five laps remaining here. Hamilton is enjoying a comfortable 10s lead over Raikkonen, while Bottas is closing in rapidly. Bottas is just 5.6s behind his fellow countryman.
