Woods not set for 'special announcement'

Former world No. 1 Tiger Woods is apparently no longer set to make an announcement about his future on Monday afternoon.
The 14-time major champion, who last week was forced to withdraw from the Open Championship as he continues to recover from long-term injuries, was reportedly due to appear on the Golf Channel at 11am Eastern Time (4pm UK time) to make a public statement.
The channel confirmed on Twitter that there would be a "special announcement concerning Tiger Woods" on Monday morning, however that tweet was subsequently deleted.
And Woods agent, Mark Steinberg, moved to deny any statement would be made.
There's an erroneous report that he's making an announcement, but he's not," Steinberg said.
Speculation had been rife as to the possible nature of Woods' announcement. It had been speculated the 35-year-old, who has previously refused to put any timeframe on his recovery from injury, could confirm he was set to sit out the rest of the 2011 season.
However, reports in some quarters had suggested he could even be set to announce his retirement from the sport. Woods has traditionally used his official website for all significant announcements about his career, however.
"Unfortunately, I've been advised that I should not play in the British Open," Woods said in his last official statement on the matter. "As I stated at the AT&T National, I am only going to come back when I'm 100% ready as I do not want to risk further injury.
"I've got to do it right this time and not come back until I'm ready. I think my best years are still ahead of me, and I'm very confident and optimistic about the future."
