US Open winner Rory McIlroy is set to make a shock U-turn by taking up his PGA Tour membership again next year.

The 22-year-old appeared to fall out of love with European golf during the Open Championships, suggesting afterwards that he was far from impressed by the effect weather conditions had on his progress.

That was his first appearance since he demolished the field at the year's second major at Congressional, winning by eight shots, and it seems he believes his game is better suited to American conditions and courses.

He played the bulk of his golf Stateside during 2010, but gave it up because he was missing Europe.

"I spoke to a couple of the guys from the PGA Tour today about it," he said. "I am leaning towards taking my card up again, definitely. I feel as if I play my best golf over here. I am very comfortable in this country and I am going to look at a few houses in Florida after (next week's) PGA.

"I'm definitely looking at coming back and playing a full schedule here. I've thought about it and feel my game really suits playing courses over here. I love Quail Hollow, Memorial, Akron. You play Match Play, Honda, Doral, Masters - you have your favourite events and most of my favourite events seem to be on this side of the pond.

"I'd like to give it a go again and last more than one year and see how it goes."
