US move for career not love - McIlroy

Rory McIlroy has admitted Caroline Wozniacki played a part in his decision to turn his back on the European Tour.

McIlroy snubbed the PGA Tour last year, claiming he was homesick. But having recently split with childhood sweetheart Holly Sweeney, McIlroy has been spending time with fellow jetsetter and tennis world No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki.

The US Open champion insists the move is the best thing for his career, but having looked at houses in Florida, he admits Wozniacki, who also owns a home in the area and spends a great deal of time on tour Stateside, influenced his decision.

"I think it all comes into it, definitely," McIlroy said in the Sun. "But the main reason is because I think it'll be best for my career and for my golf. You know, there might be other things that have led to this decision but ultimately it's about the golf.

"I think it's a good move for my career. I feel like I play my best golf over here, and I'm comfortable here. I'm never going to leave Europe. I'm always going to play there as much as I can. It's something I've thought about, especially after winning the US Open. I really enjoy it over here and I'd like to give it another go - 95 per cent of me wants to come over."
