Haas gets final US pick for Presidents Cup
United States captain Fred Couples has awarded FedEx Cup winner Bill Haas the final place in his team for the forthcoming Presidents Cup.
Haas, who earned $11.4 million with his victory at last weekend's Tour Championship, became the final name in the 12-man lineup on Tuesday - joining Tiger Woods in receiving a captain's pick from Couples.
International captain Greg Norman also named his two captain's picks, opting for compatriots Aaron Baddeley and Robert Allenby. The pair bring the number of Australians in Norman's team to five, adding a strong domestic interest to the event at Royal Melbourne.
"I needed all of them and at the end of the day it just worked out perfectly for us," Norman said, after Geoff Ogilvy qualified automatically with his finish in the Tour Championship. "(Allenby's) performances around Royal Melbourne over the years have been extraordinary.
"He's a great team player and he has a lot of chemistry in the locker room. He was an automatic pick for me."
Baddeley, who also performed strongly at East Lake, added: "I'm so excited that Greg picked me. It was really pleasing to be able to perform when I needed to. It's an absolute dream come true."
There had been speculation that Couples would pick US PGA Championship victor Keegan Bradley for the remaining space in his team, after he had already made clear Woods would make the squad no matter what. Despite missing out, the 25-year-old - who Couples revealed is effectively first reserve, if Steve Stricker does not recover from a wrist injury - was magnanimous about the decision.
"Congrats to Bill Haas and Tiger Woods," Bradley said on Twitter. "They deserve the picks. Although I'm very disappointed, I'm very happy to have been considered. GO USA."
