Woods avoids embarrassment by making cut

Tiger Woods avoided the ignominy of missing consecutive cuts for the first time in his professional career, firing a three-under round of 68 on the second day of the Frys.com Open.
That was enough to move Woods to one-under, keeping him around for the weekend - although there are no signs of him breaking free of the slump that has held him prisoner for months.
He called Thursday's 73 "one of the worst putting rounds I've ever had" but, on Friday, he took two more putts than he had 24 hours previous. He had birdies to show for his efforts, though, notching six in all.
That was testament to the quality of his iron play, because his strikes from the tee were wild - once again, there were few signs that coach Sean Foley's swing changes were having much benefit. Woods hit 43% of his fairways, and is tied for 125th at the tournament in the driving accuracy standings.
So there is work to do across the weekend for the former world No. 1, who will be desperate to improve on his current ranking of 51st.
England's Paul Casey leads the tournament at eight-under following a 64 that caught fire on the back nine, with six birdies. Casey, who is looking for his second win of the year, played terrifically in all aspects: he found 80% of his fairways, and required just 26 putts.
He sits one shot clear of Bud Cauley and Ernie Els, though the South African has three holes still to play after the second day was cut short due to fog delaying the start. Garrett Willis, Nathan Green and Troy Matteson sit a further shot back, with the latter duo to complete their second round on Saturday morning.
