Tom Lewis is refusing to get carried away, despite a breakthrough European Tour success at the Portugal Masters over the weekend.

Lewis, 20, began the final day four shots off the lead, but came storming through with a round of 65 that took him to the title in only his third professional tournament.

It took Tiger Woods five events as a pro to achieve his maiden triumph, and the composure Lewis showed on Sunday will invite comparisons with the former world No. 1 - but the precocious Brit is keeping his feet on the ground.

"I've got a long way to go. I'm nowhere near the player I want to be," said Lewis, who has climbed from 621st to 166th in the world rankings. "I played a couple of events in Australia and Dubai earlier this year. I knew the standard was good, but I knew that I was able to win. It was just whether the nerves and the mind was able to carry on."

Over on the PGA Tour, Webb Simpson overtook Luke Donald on the Money List at the weekend, leaving the Englishman needing a second-place or better finish at this week's Children's Miracle Network Hospitals Classic, which both players will attend, to reclaim top spot.

"I think coming in, finishing second is going to make it a lot harder for Luke," Simpson said. "But I'm sure he's going to play well. He's played well almost every week this year. I still wouldn't be surprised if I have a little work to do next week."
