Furyk ends drought in Florida

Jim Furyk survived a nervy finish to claim the Transitions Championship in Florida, ending his two-and-a-half year wait for a title success on the PGA Tour.
Despite his best efforts to throw away a two-stroke lead heading into the final hole, where Furyk drove his tee shot into the trees and nearly took out a cameraman with his shanked second, he managed to hole a bogey to finish at 13-under, one stroke ahead of K.J. Choi.
Luke Donald endured a frustrating final round, shooting an even-par 71 to waste any chance of challenging for the lead. The Englishman finished at seven-under in a tie for sixth. Justin Rose also went around even, staying at five-under.
In a rain-affected final round that seemed to upset many of the competitors, Padraig Harrington also struggled for rhythm and four bogeys contributed to a 72 that dropped him back to six-under and a tie for eighth.
Retief Goosen was another who could only manage an even round, ending his hopes of challenging for the lead, while fellow chasers Choi and Bubba Watson were the only ones to provide a threat to Furyk's overnight lead, but ultimately fell one and two shots short respectively after starting with Goosen at eight-under.
Furyk, who has remained in the world top ten despite a drought that extends back to the 2007 RBC Canadian Open, admitted to succumbing to the pressure of wrapping up his long-awaited victory.
"I have a habit of making it tough on myself," Furyk said. "Just nerves got me, to be honest with you."
