Former European Tour star Colin Montgomerie expects Tiger Woods to win The Masters, after the 14-time major champion claimed a five-shot victory at the Arnold Palmer Invitational on Sunday.

Woods, looking for his first win in a full-field professional event since 2009, breezed away from the field at Bay Hill to seal his seventh victory in the tournament; the perfect preparation for an attempt to win a fifth Green Jacket at Augusta National at the start of April.

Impressed by his performance, Montgomerie believes things now look "ominous" for all Woods' rivals, especially the Europeans who have prospered in his recent absence from the winner's circle.

"It was amazing to win by five shots, to win easily in the end against a very good competitor in Graeme McDowell and Ian Poulter that were pressing at one stage," Montgomerie told Sky Sports.

"It's ominous for our top four Europeans, the [Martin] Kaymers, the [Luke] Donalds, the [Lee] Westwoods and of course Rory McIlroy, it's ominous.

"But it's good for the game, we've missed him. Forget what happened, let's just talk about Tiger Woods the golfer and the marketeer that he is for helping our game expand, and he did help it for the last 15 years.

"Yes, the last three years have been difficult, but now to have him back in the winner's circle is good for the game of golf.

"People are talking about the game of golf, people want to play the game of golf, people want to do now what Tiger Woods is doing on the golf course, it's brilliant."
