McIlroy sheds light on manager split

Rory McIlroy has explained his career was "being led down the wrong path" under the former leadership of Andrew 'Chubby' Chandler and International Sports Management, and the youngster feels he is now heading in the right direction ahead of the Masters.
McIlroy made the split from Chandler and ISM in October of last year, some six months after his Masters meltdown at Augusta.
Since then he has risen to the top of the world rankings, registering three victories and eight top-ten finishes from 11 starts. Ahead of his return to the year's first major, the 22-year-old is one of the favourites to triumph come Sunday.
McIlroy, who is currently ranked No. 2 in the world, cites two decisions that sparked his decision to leave ISM, revealing he regretted giving up his PGA Tour card in 2010, as well as not playing at Sawgrass.
"That's another example of being involved with Chubby and ISM and maybe being led down the wrong path, or a path that I didn't want to go down," McIlroy told Irish Golf Desk. "It was something I sort of felt like I had to do.
"I think just spending a little bit of time around Chubby and Lee [Westwood] and hearing their view of the PGA Tour - obviously they're very pro-European Tour - while I've always been one who wanted to play on the PGA Tour.
"Not playing Sawgrass was one of the decisions I look back on and regret a little bit."
McIlroy is now under the guidance of Dublin-based Horizon Sports Management.
