Rory McIlroy will arrive at Augusta National in the shape of his life - thanks to girlfriend Caroline Wozniacki.

The former world No. 1, one of the most well-conditioned athletes in women's tennis, has educated the Northern Irishman in the ways of the workout over the course of their nine months together.

"When I first met him he would go for a run and after 15 minutes he would be dead. But we went jogging for half an hour together yesterday and there was no problem," Wozniacki told the Daily Telegraph.

"We do hit the gym together when we can. Rory used to mainly go on the exercise bike, but he has added a lot more to his routines now and he has become much stronger."

Wozniacki, who will not be at The Masters as she prepares for a WTA tournament in her home town of Copenhagen, is a golf fan and still remembers empathising with McIlroy's final-round collapse last year before the pair had met, but does not see her boyfriend being haunted by the memories this weekend.

"I was playing at Charleston and watching on TV," Wozniacki said. "I just remember feeling so bad for him. Golf can be tougher than tennis when things go wrong, because you can't explain things by saying that your opponent played better than you. It's a cruel sport in that way.

"So then I was impressed when he came back and won the US Open soon afterwards. And the great thing is that he is looking forward to this year's Masters so much. He's really excited, which is a great attitude to have after last year. Anyone who knows Rory will tell you what a relaxed person he is. I think it's his great strength."
