Luke Donald is confident his superior putting will help guide him to victory at The Masters this weekend.

The world No. 1 kept his cool on the green to win a four-man play-off at the Transitions Championship last month to wrest back the No. 1 ranking from Rory McIlroy.

Returning to the Augusta National course, where he finished tied for fourth last year, Donald believes his ability with the short stick will give him the edge.

"I've always felt The Masters offers me maybe my best chance of winning a major because it puts such a demand on your short game, especially your putting," Donald said in the Sun.

"Yes, you know you are going to miss a fair few of these greens. But I've got enough faith in my short game to back myself to get up and down most times. But when you do hit these greens, and you give yourself a decent look at a birdie, you have to grab those chances.

"I've felt comfortable at Augusta ever since I finished third here on my first appearance back in 2005. I haven't really built on that but I played nicely to finish in a share of fourth with Tiger [Woods] last year. And obviously I've had a great run since then."

After becoming the first man to win both the European and PGA Tour money lists, Donald is confident he can cope with the big-pressure putts on the final day at Augusta.

"I've been ranked No. 1 in putting for the last three years - so just trust it and hit in," Donald said. "That is the positive vibe I always try to give myself for the big putts. Absolutely. And it definitely helps."
