Defending champion Paul Casey has withdrawn from the Houston Open, which starts on Thursday, due to a shoulder injury.

Casey expects the injury to keep him out for a week and he is hopeful that he will be able to compete at the first Major of the year, the Masters at Augusta, which begins on April 8.

Casey has recently stated that he feels last year's win in Houston - his first on the PGA Tour - drained his energy ahead of the Masters. "I think it took a little bit of steam out of me for the following week last year," Casey said.

Casey has been in good form this term after an injury-plagued second half to 2009. He finished second at the WGC-CA Accenture World Matchplay, fourth at the Honda Classic and sixth at the WGC-CA Championship.
