Davis Love III and David Toms rolled back the years to surge into contention as Arjun Atwal took the halfway lead in the McGladrey Classic.

Love III knows the Sea Island track well and is the event's host. He took advantage of his local knowledge in Georgia by storming into contention with a round of 66 to move to nine-under.

One shot further back is Toms who carded a 67, despite missing a couple of short putts and making a costly bogey on 18.

The lead is held by Atwal who hit eight birdies in a round of 63 which propelled him to 10-under.

Jim Furyk is attempting to erase the memories of Ryder Cup defeat and he eased into contention at nine-under courtesy of a classy 65.

Bud Cauley remains firmly in the hunt after adding a 70 to his opening 64. The overnight leader was not as sharp from tee to green as the previous day, but he was sharp around the greens as he remained at eight-under

"I would have loved to have shot under par," Cauley said. "But even is not too bad, and I'm going to work on the irons a little bit and hopefully I'll be close tomorrow."

Jason Day has spoken positively about coming back into form and the Australian posted a second consecutive 67 to move to six-under - which is the same score as Vijay Singh following the veteran Fijian's 68, while England's Greg Owen is well placed at seven-under.
