Oosthuizen eyes multiple major wins in 2013

Louis Oosthuizen believes he can win two majors in 2013, after starting his season with victory at the Volvo Golf Champions.

Oosthuizen, who climbed to No. 4 in the latest world rankings following his success in his native South Africa, believes dominance in the majors is the only way he can close the gap on the current world No. 1 Rory McIlroy.

Asked what he needed to do to supplant McIlroy at the top of the game, the 2010 Open champion said: "You have to ask him almost. Obviously he's in a great spot and he's swinging it well, and he's far ahead from No. 2.

"So, you know, even if I or Tiger [Woods] or Luke [Donald], anyone plays really well, you know, Rory is still playing well. It will be tough to catch him.

"But it's all going to come down to the majors. If I can try and get a major this year - one, or two even - then the difference will be the majors, because it's got the big points."

Oosthuizen will be considered one of the favourites for The Masters, after losing in a play-off to Bubba Watson at Augusta National last April. But the South African is wary of putting too much pressure on himself ahead of the year's first major.

"I'm just going to try and handle it as a normal tournament," he said. "But you know, I never like to have big expectations before the tournament.

"I like to start the tournament and then if I feel my game is there and I'm playing really well, then you know, everything starts ... that attitude where I feel I've got a good chance this week."

While delighted with his victory on Sunday, Oosthuizen was also looking forward to getting a digger - his prize for a winning role in the pro-am event - onto his farm.

"Obviously the win is great to start the year off," Oosthuizen said. "But I'm going to enjoy that Excavator on my farm, I can tell you that."

Elsewhere, Sony Open winner Russell Henley was rewarded for his maiden PGA Tour success by climbing into the world's top 50 for the first time in his career.

Henley, the first player in over a decade to win on his first official start as a PGA Tour rookie, will be granted a place in the forthcoming WGC-World Match Play Championship if he stays inside the top 64 until the second week of February.
