Kim ruled out for 10 weeks with thumb injury

Anthony Kim has been ruled out of action for a minimum of 10 weeks after undergoing surgery to his left thumb.
The American Ryder Cup star, who finished third at last month's Masters a week after winning at the Shell Houston Open, opted to have the operation after pulling out of this week's Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass.
"While I had hoped to be able to continue to play through the injury, compensating for it was starting to cause other issues, including a sore shoulder," Kim said. "We had to get it fixed."
The surgery was carried out by Dr Thomas Graham, chief of the National Hand Center in Baltimore.
"Anthony sustained a high grade partial tear of the ulnar collateral ligament of his left thumb several months ago," Dr Graham said. "Over the course of the last several months of tournament play, the status of the ligament proved insufficient for Anthony to compete on Tour.
"But I was extremely pleased with how the repair of the ligament went."
The world No. 11 will miss next month's US Open at Pebble Beach and could be absent from The Open at St Andrews in July, but will be hopeful of a return to fitness in time for October's Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor.
