Anthony Kim has announced that he will end his three-month injury layoff by returning to action at next week's WGC-Bridgestone Invitational in Akron.

The world No. 13 saw his impressive season disrupted after he was forced to undergo thumb surgery in April soon after a third-place finish at the Masters.

News of Kim's return will provide a welcome boost to American captain Corey Pavin ahead of the Ryder Cup - the 25-year-old has been in imperious form this year, winning the Houston Open and finishing in the top ten in half of the eight events he has played.

Kim, who stands at fourth in the US points table, was one of the stars of the home nation's victory when the Ryder Cup visited Valhalla in 2008.
