Madrid success sends Donald rocketing into top ten

Luke Donald has shot into the top ten of the world rankings after ending his four-year wait for a title at the Madrid Masters over the weekend.
The win at Real Sociedad represented the perfect riposte to Donald's disappointment of the previous week, where he threw away his chance of victory at the PGA Championship by double-bogeying the 17th.
Donald is one of four English players in the world's top nine - a decade ago Lee Westwood was the only English representative in the top 100.
Elsewhere, Brian Davis' disappointment at having to settle for second place at the Crowne Plaza Invitation will have been tempered by the news that he has climbed nearly 40 places in the world rankings.
Davis finished three shots behind Zach Johnson at the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial in Texas, having started the day in a tie for the lead.
He now climbs from 110th to 72nd in the world, while Johnson moves firmly into Ryder Cup contention by shooting 18 spots to 16th.
Tiger Woods would have been displaced at the top if Phil Mickelson had won Crowne Plaza, but he failed to make the cut after struggling off the tee at Colonial.
