Bubba Watson came home in 29 shots to take a two-shot lead after two rounds of the Bob Hope Classic. Play was washed out on Thursday, making for rain-softened greens and fairways and Watson used his long hitting to good effect in California.

A ten-under par 62 at the SilverRock Resort, one of four venues hosting the five-round pro-am, took him two shots clear of Alex Prugh who carded a 66 on the Palmer Private course at PGA West. First-round leader Shane Bertsch struck a 69 to sit a further stroke back at 13-under, level with Americans Joe Ogilvie, Martin Flores, and Chad Collins.

Watson, a left hander, believes if the conditions remain on the soft side then he will have an advantage over the rest of the field. "My length is definitely going to play a part on that golf course because it's got wide fairways and I can rip it if I want to," he said after posting nine birdies and an eagle. "The par-fives are reachable, unless you get a day like today. A lot of them are almost 600 yards, so it's going to be hard for everybody.

"I putted well today That was my key. I hit a lot of good shots but I putted well. If I don't make all the putts, I'm not talking to you right now."

Justin Rose made a move up the leaderboard on day two. He followed up his opening round 0f 70 with a 67 to move to seven-under par. His round contained nine birdies and two costly bogeys and moved him level with the likes of Jesper Parnevic, Fredric Jacobson and Pat Perez.
