Karlsson suffers wrist injury

Robert Karlsson has pulled out of the Open de France with a wrist injury and will not play again until the Open at St Andrews in two weeks.
The Swede, who won the European Tour's Order of Merit in 2008, looked to be struggling as he played his way to a four-over-par 76 at Le Golf National in his opening round, to trail leader Robert-Jan Derksen by 13 shots at the Paris-based event.
The 40-year-old missed the Open at Turnberry last year with a retina problem that kept him out of the game for nearly four months and he is keen to avoid a repeat of that layoff.
"I woke up this morning and it was sore and swollen," Karlsson said. "I got some treatment and the swelling went down. But when I tried to swing the club I could hardly hit it 50 metres and the swelling came back.
"I played pretty poorly and I caught a couple of shots fat on the hard ground, so I think I know what caused the injury."
Karlsson lost out in a play-off to Lee Westwood at the St Jude Classic in Memphis three weeks ago, and followed that up by finishing 27th in the US Open the following week.
Despite that promising form, the Ryder Cup star missed the cut at the BMW International in Munich and was looking to play himself back into form with a good finish in France, but will have to wait until the Open at St Andrews for his next competitive start.
"I was going to play the JP McManus Pro-am in Ireland on Monday and Tuesday, but I won't be doing that now and I wasn't entered for the Scottish Open, so it's the Open next."
