The 14-time major winner will tee off at 9.04am on Thursday with Argentina's Angel Cabrera and Sweden's Henrik Stenson. The same group will tee off at 2.05pm on Friday.

Woods missed the Masters and the US Open because of back surgery and has played just two rounds this year since returning. He won the last Open played at Royal Liverpool in 2006.

Phil Mickelson will begin his Open defense at 2.05pm along with two-time Open champion Ernie Els and reigning Masters winner Bubba Watson. They will take the 9.04am slot on Friday.

US Open winner Martin Kaymer is scheduled to go off at 1.38pm along with Jason Day and Zach Johnson. Other notable groupings include Luke Donald, Sergio Garcia and Rickie Fowler at 8.31am; Rory McIlroy, Hideki Matsuyama and Jordan Spieth at 9.26am; and Adam Scott, Justin Rose - who has won his past two events - and Jason Dufner at 2.27pm.

Unlike most PGA Tour events along with the US Open and the PGA Championship, the Open does not have a two-tee start because of no daylight concerns in Britain. The first tee time is at 6.25am, with the last not coming until 4.06pm.
