Lee Westwood has confirmed he is on track to return to action at the HSBC Champions event in Shanghai on November 4.

Westwood has been battling a leg injury since the summer and after returning to action to help Europe lift the Ryder Cup, he took a further break after encountering discomfort during the Dunhill Links Championship.

The Brit will become world No. 1 in a little over a week, while having his feet up on the sofa, but he is happy with his fitness and is on course to put his impending status to the test in Shanghai.

"I am now on to the pressing things of getting fit and getting the No. 1 spot," Westwood, who was at Doncaster to see his horse Hoof It win, told Channel4. "The fitness is pretty good.

"Hopefully I'll be back in a couple of weeks in Shanghai. It's then two weeks off and then finish the season off in Dubai and South Africa."
