Jimenez edges nail-biting play-off in Dubai

Miguel Angel Jimenez beat Lee Westwood in a sudden death play-off to take victory at the Dubai Desert Classic.
Earlier in the day Westwood let a two-shot lead slip after he double-bogeyed the fifth, and Jimenez's birdie on the 17th looked to have been enough to seal the victory, but Westwood's birdie-four on the 18th drew him level on 11-under to go to sudden death play-off.
Westwood twice had the better tee shot with the pressure of sudden death, but on both occasions his putting handed his opponent a lifeline to draw the hole. It was third time lucky for Jimenez after Westwood missed his five-foot putt and the Spaniard calmly sank a four-footer for his first EurIopean Tour victory since May 2008.
"After so many years of coming to Dubai and playing well, I am proud to have finally won this title," Jimenez said. "I have always loved the course, the ambiance and the people here."
Alvaro Quiros and Thongchai Jaidee shared the overnight lead with Westwood and Jiminez, but three bogeys on the back nine saw the Spaniard drop out of contention, while Jaidee recovered well from three early bogeys, but slipped to one shot off the leaders.
Rory McIlroy ended the round strongly with a birdie-four on the final hole, but four bogeys saw him slip to eight-under to finish joint sixth alongside Quiros, Tom Watson and Henrik Stenson.
Paul Casey shot a double bogey on the fourth hole to finish the round one-over to drop to five-under par. He was joined by fellow Englishmen Ross Fisher and David Horsey.
