Sergio Garcia endured an afternoon of toil on the greens, but remains firmly in the hunt after three rounds of the Byron Nelson Championship.

On a day when high winds made scoring difficult, it was the short stick rather than woods or irons that caused Garcia problems. Beginning the day in a share of the lead at eight-under, the Spaniard dropped four strokes to par to slip back to four-under for the tournament.

Garcia missed a string of makeable putts, including a five-footer for a par on the 16th, and 35 hits with the short stick proved costly. But he remains firmly in the hunt as he sits just one shot off the lead.

That lead is held by his playing partner Ryan Palmer who carded a 73 to sit at five-under for the tournament.

Local teenager Jordan Spieth had big galleries following him and the 17-year-old gave them plenty to talk about. He whipped up the crowd with birdies on one and two, only to give the shots back with a double-bogey on four. Further birdies and bogeys followed on the back nine as he signed for a 72 to move to one-under.

Scoring conditions were difficult in the warm, windy condition at the TPC Four Seasons Resort and the low round of the day was only three-under. It belonged to Arjun Atwal whose 67 moved him to three-under for the championship - level with Ryuji Imada.

Matt Kuchar shot a 68 to move to two-under and he is sat alongside Joe Ogilvie and Gary Woodland.
