Ramsay 'feeling suicidal' after play-off heartache

Scottish golfer Richie Ramsay said he was 'feeling suicidal' after missing a play-off to decide a US Open spot in favour of attending a friend's wedding.
The former US Amateur champion was left to rue a nightmare turn of events which saw him miss both his flight to Belfast and the play-off event at the Walton Heath course in Surrey. Swede Johan Edfors beat Dane Andreas Harto to claim the final place on offer around 9.30pm - just as a shell-shocked Ramsay arrived in the car park.
After failing to attend fellow Tour player Gareth Maybin's wedding, Ramsay, who finished his fog-delayed two rounds at four under par, attempted to return to the course to take part in a three-man play-off but he was still 15 minutes away when Edfors and Harto were teeing it up.
"I can't believe they played when it was pitch dark," he said. "As I left at 5.30 guys were teeing off the first hole, but they made the decision and I can't do anything about it. It's not up to me to say it's right or wrong, but it's just been an horrific day - just an awful, awful day.
"I feel suicidal. I got a call from Stevie (Stephen Gallacher) to say four under was in and to get back here so to miss out is a horrible feeling. I feel physically sick right now.
"When I left the course at 5.30pm there was 18 guys ahead of me on the leaderboard. I've been to Heathrow, missed my flight because of the traffic, and now raced back here, with a couple of speeding tickets likely heading my way, just to be told I've missed out. But I've only got myself to blame."
There was some consolation for Ramsay after he was told he had been made a reserve for Congressional on June 16-19.
