Jolyon Palmer won a tense GP2 sprint race in Bahrain on Sunday ahead of Simon Trummer and Julian Leal.

The three got ahead of Felipe Nasr at the start who got too much wheelspin from pole position and slipped down the field on the run to Turn 1. Trummer led for the first lap but was beaten into Turn 1 on lap two by Palmer, who held the position for the rest of the race.

However, in was a close race with less than 1.5s covering the top three for most of the race. Nevertheless, Palmer, who finished third in Saturday's feature race, held on for the lead. Feature race winner Stoffel Vandoorne had a disappointing race after a poor start saw him slip to 11th by the end of the first lap. On lap two he damaged his front wing against the rear of Daniel de Jong's car at Turn 4, forcing him to pit and ruling him out of the running for points.

Nasr, who dropped to fifth on the first lap, muscled his way back up to fourth with three laps remaining after a thrilling tussle with Adrian Quaife-Hobbs. Nasr initially got past Quaife-Hobbs at the final corner on lap 20 but was passed again into Turn 1 at the end of the pit straight. He finally made the move stick into Turn 4 by positioning himself on the outside of Quaife-Hobbs and swooping past to take the position.

Mitch Evans finished seventh behind Quaife-Hobbs after a good recover drive from 14th on the grid, while Rene Binder took the final point in eighth place.
