Mark Webber says that Red Bull Racing gained some important data during Friday's free practice session for the Spanish Grand Prix and that the RB8 worked well both on the long and short runs.

Webber finished the day seventh fastest after completing 34 laps of the Circuit de Catalunya. But despite finishing half a second off team-mate Sebastian Vettel, Webber insists the times are unrepresentative of the whole story.

"It takes a while for us to get into the groove with the balance," said Webber. "I still think we saw at the end there that the lap times everyone sees are basically the one time laps with the options on. So if you get that right you don't look too bad.

"You see six and seventh tenths differences between team-mates JB and Lewis so it just shows that if you get it together, the lap times come. So that's the challenge on the tyres. But we've got a lot of good information today. The long runs were pretty solid and the short runs worked too."
