Ferrer closes in on London with Valencia victory

David Ferrer edged closer to qualification for the ATP World Tour Finals in London after claiming his second title of the season at the Valencia Open.
The world No. 8, victorious in Acapulco in February, beat lucky loser Marcel Granollers 7-5 6-3 in an all-Spanish encounter to claim victory in his home event.
Ferrer last won the Valencia title in 2008 in its previous incarnation as a clay-court event, but the clay-court specialist used the whole of the court to good effect overcome his powerful opponent.
World No. 67 Granollers, only playing in Valencia by virtue of Jo-Wilfried Tsonga's withdrawal with a knee injury, had made impressive progress to reach only his second ATP Tour final.
But despite serving six aces, he was outplayed by the fourth seed, who moves to seventh in the year-to-date rankings.
