Fernando Alonso has confirmed Ferrari is working on a similar air inlet and rear wing design to McLaren, now that the FIA has declared the innovation legal.
The new McLaren has a slot that the driver can open and close to increase and decrease the flow of air to the rear wing. Changing the flow can stall the rear wing and can add around 4 mph to the top speed down the straights.
Ferrari has remained quiet since the wing controversy emerged but Alonso has now revealed the team is working on its own version. Red Bull's Christian Horner said copying the system is a more likely action than a protest.
"As the FIA has looked at it and deemed it to be okay, it's therefore a clever design as opposed to a illegal design," he said. "So inevitably now there will be a wild goose chase with all the teams chasing that loophole."
Meanwhile Williams' Patrick Head labelled the whole business "a bloody nuisance".
