Tiger Woods has announced that he is splitting with caddie Steve Williams, ending the pair's 12-year working relationship.

Williams, who has been on the bag for Australia's Adam Scott at the last two majors, was informed of the decision after the AT&T National tournament at the start of July. Woods is yet to decide on a replacement.

"I want to express my deepest gratitude to Stevie for all his help, but I think it's time for a change," Woods said in a statement. "Stevie is an outstanding caddie and a friend and has been instrumental in many of my accomplishments. I wish him great success in the future."

Woods has been out of action since the Players Championship in May, which he withdrew from after being unable to complete his first round, as he struggles to overcome leg injuries sustained at The Masters. No date is currently set for his comeback.

He has failed to fire since returning to the game in April 2010, and has been through the process of rebuilding his swing under the tutelage of coach Sean Foley, the man entrusted with helping him rediscover his top level.

The 35-year-old is without a win since November 2009, a barren run that has seen him slump to 20th in the world rankings.
