Sacked caddie Steve Williams has confessed he had no idea his services were set to be disposed of by Tiger Woods.

Former world No. 1 Woods severed the pair's 12-year relationship on Wednesday, announcing that it was "time for a change". Woods has not tasted success since November 2009, taking him as low as 20th in the world rankings.

The American has spent time rearranging several important factors of his support team, most notably rebuilding his swing with Sean Foley. Now the time has come for "outstanding caddie" Williams to suffer from Woods' own failings.

The duo stood together through Woods' difficult marital break-up, which saw him take an undefined break from the game. With that in mind, Williams admits he has found Wednesday's axing difficult to take.

"Following the completion of the AT&T National I am no longer caddying for Tiger after he informed me that he needed to make a change," Williams confirmed. "After 13 years of loyal service needless to say this came as a shock.

"Given the circumstances of the past 18 months working through Tiger's scandal, a new coach and with it a major swing change and Tiger battling through injuries, I am very disappointed to end our very successful partnership at this time."

Williams had been caddying for Adam Scott during the most recent two majors, and he will now focus all his efforts on the Australian.

"I have had the opportunity to work of late for Australian Adam Scott and will now caddy for him on a permanent basis," Williams added. "Having started my caddying career with Australian great Peter Thompson and working for Greg Norman in the '80s I am excited about the future working for another Australian."
