Rory McIlroy has finally gone public on his relationship with world No. 1 tennis player Caroline Wozniacki, while revealing his wrist injury is also healing rapidly.

McIlroy, the reigning US Open champion, has been linked with Wozniacki ever since the pair were pictured enjoying a day out together in London earlier in the summer. After confirming to the media that it was now fine to refer to the Dane as his girlfriend (and vice-versa), McIlroy admitted that the pair get on so well as they are both experiencing similar things in their respective careers.

"Why it's going so well is that we have so much in common," McIlroy said. "Obviously, different sports, but we're pretty much in the same position at a young age and we can talk about things that probably a lot of 21, 22-year olds can't talk about.

"It's nice to have someone that sort of understands what you're going through."

Currently out of action due to a wrist injury he picked up during the first round of the US PGA Championship, McIlroy also confirmed that his condition is improving rapidly - as he builds up to playing "maybe 17, 18 events" in the United States in 2012.

"It's not actually my wrist, it's more up into the front of my elbow," McIlroy said. "It's OK. It's not 100 per cent."

He added: "For me, I play my best golf over here [in the US] and I just want to spend a bit more time over here."

After winning her quarter-final match at the New Haven Open, which McIlroy watched from the stands, Wozniacki added that it was nice to talk about things with the Northern Irishman.

"I think we give each other some advice once in a while, you know, if there's something we're not quite sure of," she said. "It's just nice to get an opinion. Yeah, it's nice."
