Overton buoyed by course record

Jeff Overton broke the course record at the The Mines Resort & Golf Club as he jumped into a share of the halfway lead at the Asia Pacific Classic.
Overton, a member of the 2010 United States Ryder Cup team, etched his name into the record books at the Selangor course with a blistering round of 62, which saw him birdie his opening three holes on the way to an opening nine of 30, before eagling the short par-four 15th after driving the green on the way to a 13-under total for the tournament.
That put him level with Swede Fredrik Jacobson, who fared only slightly worse during his second round of 64, and one shot ahead of compatriot Bo van Pelt, who was also seven-under par on the day.
"I changed golf clubs a couple of weeks ago and my ball-striking has improved so much," said Overton, who only got into the field as a late replacement. "Today everything clicked."
Four players remain firmly in the hunt at nine-under, including Stewart Cink (66), Mark Wilson (66), Jimmy Walker (67) and Jhonattan Vegas (69).
Overnight leader Robert Allenby lost some ground, however, as a round of 72 saw him slip back to seven-under for the tournament - while Englishman Brian Davis sits in a tie for 40th in the 48-man field after a second successive level-par round.
