A final round of 64 saw American Bo Van Pelt cruise to a six-shot victory at the Asia-Pacific Classic in Malaysia on Sunday.

The 36-year-old American, who has one PGA Tour victory to his name, began the day a shot ahead of Jeff Overton, the course record holder at The Mines Resort & Golf Club, and ensured he maintained a lead with two birdies on his outward nine.

But he really pulled away from the field in the closing stages, with five birdies in his final eight holes adding some extra emphasis to the final margin of victory as he reached 23-under for the tournament.

"I've watched other guys coming down 18 with a big lead and I thought, 'That would be fun some day if I could do that.' And it was," Van Pelt said afterwards. "I feel like the luckiest guy in the world. I get to do what I love to do for a living.

"I played well all day. I didn't make any bogeys. I just tried to play to game plan all week."

Overton held on to second at 17-under, thanks to a round of 69, with Swede Fredrik Jacobson in third thanks to a closing 68.

Cameron Tringale, Camilo Villegas and Mark Wilson all enjoyed top-five finishes after reaching 15-under.

The only Englishman in the field, Brian Davis, finally enjoyed a good day on the course as he cruised round in 67, beating his three previous rounds of 71 and ensuring he finished in a tie for 37th in the 48-man field at four-under.
