- Australian PGA Championship, Round Three
Kim leads Watson after third round
KT Kim moved to the top of the leaderboard at the Australian PGA Championship in Coolum on Saturday following his second consecutive round of 67.
The Korean was solid throughout the third round, but it was three straight birdies on the front nine which set him up to take the lead with one day to play. Kim, aiming for his 10th career title, backed up his impressive form at the recent Presidents Cup to hold off a strong challenge from American Bubba Watson.
Watson appeared certain to claim the lead himself, until a sloppy double-bogey on the par-five 15th saw Kim move comfortably ahead. Last year's USPGA Championship runner-up did manage to move to 12-under, within one shot of his rival, with a birdie on the 17th, creating an enticing contest on the final day.
Aaron Baddeley sits a further two strokes back as he made a surge on the back of a bogey-free round of 67. Overnight leader Marcus Fraser is nine-under the card after the third round, alongside YE Yang and David Bransdon in a share of fourth place.
Adam Scott's recent malaise persisted as he fired three birdies, two bogeys and a double-bogey en route to a one-over 73 to leave him seven shots off the pace. Fellow Australian Greg Norman, though, made a charge up the leaderboard as he shot a three-under 69 to take the former world No. 1 to six-under for the tournament.
Darren Clarke spurned any chance he may have had of a final-day fightback, stumbling to a disastrous seven-over round of 79. The Northern Irishman is now languishing in a tie for 61st place with one day to play, after initially being three shots off the pace after day one.
