The Ryder Cup gets underway at Medinah Country Club on September 28. ESPN will have extensive coverage of the event - including interactive text commentary, reports and reaction - for all three days.

An emotional Davis Love III shed tears during Wednesday's press conference as the 2012 Ryder Cup drew ever closer in Chicago.

The US team captain attempted to share with the media the passion he feels for the competition, but emotions spilled over as the opening tee time moved within 48 hours. Love wants the Ryder Cup trophy back, not for his own pride but for his team, for whom he clearly feels plenty of respect.

"I love being around them," Love said on Wednesday, struggling to get his words out.

He then spoke of his team's group viewing of Ryder Cup highlights on Tuesday, which prompted yet another moving response. Both Love and Bubba Watson were reduced to tears, the captain revealed.

"Bubba and I are going to cry a lot," Love said. "It's intense. Do we want to pummel them? Yes we do. We want to win.

"You know what, Ollie (Jose Maria Olazabal) and I will go toe-to-toe at some point because it's intense. It'll be about carts going over a bridge or he has more carts than me or something.

"I remember Tom [Kite] with Seve [Ballesteros] once when Tom's ball was clearly on the green, but Seve asked about it and I went in and said 'OK boys, back off'. It was the way it was handled. Ollie and I will get testy, but it will be respectful."

Love also revealed he has done little thinking about the European team, stating that he has struggled to get enough sleep just thinking of his own pairings ahead of Friday's tee-off.
