Tiger Woods has confirmed he will compete at the Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass which begins on May 6.

Woods made his much-anticipated return to the golf course at the Masters earlier this month, where he finished fourth behind Phil Mickelson who claimed the green jacket for the third time.

He will make his second appearance following a five-month absence at the Quail Hollow Championship next week, before heading straight to Ponte Vedra Beach for the Players, which he won in 2001.

"This is our event, and it always attracts one of the best fields of the year," Woods said. "It's a tournament everybody wants to win."

"We are thrilled to add Tiger Woods to the Players Championship field and really appreciate the fact that he gave us advance notice so we can generate additional excitement here in the community," said Players vice-president Jay Monahan.

"This is a huge boost for what was already shaping up to be an incredible week for our fans on site and those watching around the world. The addition of the world's No. 1 player will only enhance the Players, and we look forward to welcoming Tiger -- and what we hope will be record crowds -- to TPC Sawgrass."

Woods also confirmed he would defend his title in the AT&T National at Aronimink Golf Club in Pennsylvania at the beginning of July.

"I'm really looking forward to defending my title at the AT&T National," Woods said. "Philly is a great sports town, and I'm excited to play at Aronimink Golf Club."

Woods also submitted his entry for June's US Open at Pebble Beach last week.
