High winds continued to cause havoc at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions after play was disrupted for a third successive day in Hawaii.

Extreme winds forced organisers to cancel the first two days' play, with two rounds scheduled for Sunday.

Play was due to begin at 7.10am local time (5.10pm GMT), but tee times were delayed by four hours, with gusts of over 40 miles per hour.

Ian Poulter, the only Englishman in the 30-man field, was not confident any play would be possible at Kapalua on Sunday after another setback.

"Four hour delay now," Poulter tweeted. "Back to the hotel and not even looking good after then."

Andy Pazder, the PGA Tour's chief of operations, admitted a Tuesday finish was a possibility.

"If we find out we cannot play today, that brings Tuesday squarely into the equation," he said.

Organisers did belatedly attempt to start play, but conditions proved impossible as balls were blown from tees and greens.

In a bid to get an event played, the field will complete 36 holes on Monday - weather permitting, of course - with a further 18 holes scheduled for Tuesday, in what will become a shortened 54-hole event.
