Monty bullish about future

Colin Montgomerie is confident his game is heading towards a level where he can compete with the elite of the sport once again.
Montgomerie is hurtling towards his 47th birthday and his career has dipped from the glories of the turn of the century when he was the dominant player in European golf.
His results have tailed off in recent years and he has not had a top-ten finish since the summer of 2008 but, speaking ahead of the Italian Open, Montgomerie can see the green shoots of recovery.
"I am confident of doing well and my game is coming back," Montgomerie said. "I have made the last three cuts and hopefully getting my game into some sort of shape and contending."
Montgomerie is planning to play in a number of events this year but his focus is on his duties as captain of the European Ryder Cup team.
There has been a furore over the lack of European players at the Wales Open but just a day after Out Of Bounds suggested a mountain was being made out a molehill, Montgomerie appears to have softened his stance.
"I've asked everybody to play in Wales but I'm not sure about the entry list as such," Montgomerie said. "Of course it's opposite the Memorial Tournament which is unfortunate, one of their biggest events. But as long as the ones that aren't competing in Wales compete well in the Memorial, I'll let them off."
