Justin Rose admits he faces a tough challenge to qualify for this summer's major championships after changing his schedule to play at last week's PGA Championship.

The Florida-based 29-year-old, who finished in a tie for 10th at Wentworth, is 64th in the world rankings and in danger of not making next month's US Open or the Open in July.

Rose missed out on qualifying for the Masters back in April and is far from certain of a place in Colin Montgomerie's European Ryder Cup team, so failure to reach either major would severely hamper his chances of making it to Celtic Manor.

The 2008 Ryder Cup player's best hope of securing a place at Pebble Beach and St Andrews could be to go through the various open qualifying events in Europe or the United States, but his decision to play at Wentworth and and compete at the upcoming Memorial Tournament in Ohio have made playing at such an event a scheduling nightmare.

"Playing at Wentworth kind of snookered me if I'm honest," Rose said. "It meant I missed the British Open qualifying in the US and that is going to put me under a little bit of pressure.

"I wanted to play Wentworth rather than staying in the US for Open qualifying and that was a top call - but it has complicated things. The European rounds of Open qualifying don't fit in with Memorial. That's my dilemma right now.

"There are various other little ways in and some top-seven finishes in some events where the leading guys exempt would do it. The last resort then would be travelling up to Scotland to qualify for the Open at St Andrews.

"Where I am placed in America means that if I do well and qualify in the top 30 over there on the Fed Ex Cup list then at least I would qualify for all the majors and WGC events next year and that might be the best way to play it. But that would potentially mean missing out on the Ryder Cup and that is not something I want to have to do."

Rose could of course be a candidate for a captain's pick after impressing in Valhalla by wining three out of a possible four points, and he is aware that playing well and drawing attention to his game could be his best option if he misses out on the majors.

"I don't think I'm on Monty's radar right now but plenty of good finishes would certainly make it hard to ignore me," he said. "Right now it is a little bit tough and I'm not exactly where I want to be with the results but I'm exactly where I want to be with my game but they're not matching up which is the frustrating part for me.

"I've just got to knuckle down, grind out some top 10 finishes and make myself as hard to ignore as possible."
