JB Holmes produced a flawless ten-under round of 60 on day three at the Greenbrier Classic, where overnight frontrunner Jeff Overton extended his lead to three strokes.

Holmes was level par through three before a run of ten birdies in 14 holes took him to 12 under for the tournament - and and firmly into contention for the title.

"I knew if I played well I had a chance," Holmes said. "I hit some good putts on the back nine that didn't go in. So, you know, it's a little frustrating when you look back and end up one short [of the magic 59 number].

"It's a great round no matter what. When you look back and there's a 3-footer you missed or even the eagle putt on 17 where you hit two good shots and then, you know, I hit the putt right where I wanted to.

"So to do that, hit good shots, to end up one short is a little frustrating. I'll definitely take it."

Overton currently holds the lead at 18 under - three shots clear of DA Points in second - after he produced a six-birdie 66 that was his highest score of the tournament.

The world No. 55 threatened to fritter his advantage away in the early stages of his round as he succumbed to bogeys at two of the first five holes. He managed to cast off the shackles of that disappointing start, however, and picked up shots at will after the turn as his putter clicked into gear.

Boo Weekley has seized third position at 13 under, although his 67 failed to scale the lofty heights of the superlative 63 that he put together on Friday.

Elsewhere, veteran Justin Leonard offered a glimpse into his illustrious past with a 65 that takes him to ten under - the same score as Jim Furyk, who is rumbling into ominously strong form ahead of the US PGA Major in two weeks' time.
