Hanson slams Ryder Cup hopefuls not at Gleneagles

Peter Hanson has criticised the Ryder Cup hopefuls who have refused to play in the final qualifying event, the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles.

Hanson's triumph at the Czech Open at the weekend propelled him into the all-important top nine of the European points list - and left Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomerie with a wildcard decision that he has declared "impossible".

The Scot will announce his three captain's picks on Sunday for the October tournament, with four of Europe's most celebrated players - Paul Casey, Padraig Harrington, Justin Rose and Luke Donald - all pushing for a place.

None of those four stars have taken the decision to stake their claims for a place at Gleneagles, preferring instead to compete in the Barclays Tournament in America, which has led Hansen to take aim at them. "If you really want to make the team - and, of course, if you are that close - then you should be here and playing," said Hanson.

Hanson is at risk of slipping out of the top nine of the points list at the Johnnie Walker Championship, with Ross McGowan, Alvaro Quiros and Simon Dyson all bidding to force him out of the Ryder Cup team.
