European captain Colin Montgomerie has admitted that he is unsure whether his man-management skills are up to the demands of the Ryder Cup.

Montgomerie leads his troops into battle against America at Celtic Manor next weekend as Europe bid to regain the title they surrendered to the US two years ago.

But, while Montgomerie insists he is prepared, he is concerned that he may not be able to keep all of his 12-man squad happy.

"I don't [know if I can man-manage], and Ryder Cup captains of the past have had the same problems," Montgomerie told BBC Sport. "We get the job through our golf and not through our management skills."

The Scot also revealed that he has not abandoned hope of competing as a player at the 2012 iteration of the Ryder Cup. "Possibly those days are behind me but I'd like to think not, but you have to be realistic," he said. "I will be trying for the 2012 team but the competition has got so good this time, that there are 12 much better players who could do a better job than I could.

"It's getting more difficult and there is no European captain who has gone back to qualify for the event but first I've got to get my game back in shape and if I could do that I would love to play again."
